  • City Limits: Hubs like Bozeman, Missoula, or Billings typically require a permit for any structure exceeding 200 square feet.
  • Zoning & Setbacks: Regardless of permit status, you must follow local zoning laws regarding "setbacks," the required distance between your garage and your property line.
  • Homeowners Associations (HOA): If you live in a planned community, your HOA may have stricter rules than the county regarding building height and exterior materials.

Yes, as long as the building is engineered for the Rocky Mountain climate. Montana experiences some of the highest snow loads in the country, and a standard "big-box" shed often won't cut it.

  • Reinforced Roofing: We build our garages with high-quality materials and specific roof pitches (like our Utility or Lofted styles) designed to shed snow and prevent structural bowing.

Amish Craftsmanship: Our builders use traditional, heavy-duty framing techniques to ensure the structure remains stable under the weight of a heavy winter pack.

While our garages are built on pressure-treated skids, a proper foundation is vital for long-term stability, especially when storing heavy vehicles.

  • Crushed Stone/Gravel Pad: This is the most popular and economical choice. A 3-to-4-inch level gravel pad provides excellent drainage and prevents the building from settling unevenly.
  • Concrete Slab: For homeowners planning to use their garage as a heavy-duty workshop or for long-term vehicle storage, a concrete slab provides the most level, durable surface.

Site Prep: No matter the foundation, the site must be level within 6 inches to ensure the doors and windows function correctly.

Delivery in the Northwest requires careful planning due to our varied terrain. To ensure a smooth delivery of your Griffin Creek structure, keep these requirements in mind:

  • Width Clearance: We generally need a path that is 2 feet wider than the building. For a 12-foot wide garage, we need at least 14 feet of horizontal clearance.
  • Height Clearance: A minimum of 14 feet of vertical clearance is required to clear low-hanging branches and power lines.
  • The "Mule" Advantage: We often use a specialized machine called a "Mule" to maneuver buildings into tight spots, reducing the risk of damage to your lawn.
