Can You Live In A Shed?
With the increasing popularity of tiny homes and other backyard retreats, some people are considering a shed style building as an affordable option to create living space. While sheds can be upgraded with features like 2 x 6 framing, insulation, wiring, and interior finishes, if you choose to live in one we highly recommend your local building and zoning regulations to see what their requirements are (if any) and to ensure proper use of your building.
Therefore, it’s important that you check with your local county or city regulations before converting a shed into a living space. You may need to secure permits, meet resedential building codes, and arrange for things like plumbing or utility hookups. Many of these steps, such as foundation requirements or utility connections, are outside the scope of what Montana Structures provides, but you can find official informaiton on this site: Montana Department of Labor & Industry.
